As for the first wife of Benjamin being Esther, this idea came to me originally from David Hansen Robertson, of Stone Mountain, GA, who first mentioned this to me back in the late 1970's, based on his own correspondence or research. I have never been able to verify this name from my own extensive research, so I consider it to be at best, hearsay evidence at this point. But it is clear that Benjamin of SC did have a wife prior to Joyce Powell Shephard, and this first wife was the mother of his sons.
