In the North Carolina Militia while a resident of Wake County, Richard Hartsfield and Reuben McElroy, brother of Richard's wife Anna, served together and were in a skirmish with the British or Tories at Cross Creek, North Carolina and at the Battle of Guilford Court House, North Carolina. They followed Reuben and his wife, Christiana, to Georgia about 1784.).2,3

Biography* Lived on Golden Grove Creek, Oglethorpe Co., GA and had lands on Clark's Creek, Wilkes Co., GA.

Served in the Revolution as a private under Captain Wood & Col. Malmady (A Frenchman). In the North Carolina militia while a resident of Wake Co., North Carolina, Richard Hartsfield (husband of Reuben's sister Anna) and Reuben served together and were in a skirmish with the British or Tories at Cross Creek, North Carolina and at the Battle of Guilford Court House, North Carolina.

They moved to Georgia about 1784 and were soon followed by Anna and Richard. Reuben was an ordained minister and was at one time a member of Mars Hill, Baptist Church, Oconee Co., Georgia.1
