DNA* From DNA and genealogical evidence we conclude that James H. Culpepper is a descendant of James Culpepper, Jr., of Darlington Co., SC, and that James Jr. is a grandson on Robert Culpepper, Jr. and 2-great-grandson of Henry Culpepper of Lower Norfolk, VA.

Research note Nothing is known about Richard and Bettie Culpepper other than their appearance in the 1880 census. It is possible that they are the children of James H. Culpepper, as two other children of James (David and Susan) were the only Culpeppers appearing in Madison Parish, LA in 1880. If you can better identify the father of Richard and Bettie, please contact Warren Culpepper.3

From Norma Beddingfield: This picture was loose in the old tin type photo book and is a tin type also. We don't know who it is for sure but think it might be James H Culpepper. I was told that James H. had a small hand and possibly a small foot caused from a fall or possibly disease. We think this man's beard and mustache grows much like the photo you already have on line that you list as James H or one of his sons.7
