Jefferson Davis County

County History

Jefferson Davis County was formed in 1906 from territory in Covington and Lawrence counties and was named in honor of Jefferson Davis, the Confederate President.  As of 2000, its population was 13,962. Its county seat and largest town is Prentiss. Jefferson Davis County is bordered by Simpson County (north), Covington County (east), Lamar County (southeast), Marion County (south), Adams County (south) and Lawrence County (west).
