History

In the north central Kentucky part of the Pennyrile Region,  Hardin County was formed in 1792 from Nelson County. Its county seat, Elizabethton, is on the Bluegrass Parkway about 80 miles SW of Lexington, and on I-65 about 40 miles south of Louisville. Hardin is bordered by the counties of Jefferson, Bullitt, Nelson, Larue, Hart, Grayson, Breckinridge and Meade.
