History

In the south desert region of Arizona, Maricopa County was formed in 1871 from Yavapi and Pima Counties. Its county seat, Phoenix, is also the state capital. Maricopa is bordered by the counties of Yavapi, Gila, Pinal, Pima, Yuma and La Paz.
